The UP Gramin Bank IFSC Code (Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank) is BARB0BUPGBX. The bank’s own notices say this code replaces the old Aryavart Bank, Prathama UP Gramin Bank, and Baroda UP Bank codes for all branches since the 1 May 2025 merger. I wrote this guide because many pages still show the old Baroda UP Gramin Bank details, and an incorrect code can cause your NEFT, RTGS, or IMPS transfer to fail or be returned. I checked the bank’s official pages and notices on 22 October 2026 before writing each section below.

    Quick Summary

    • Bank name now: Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank (UPGB), a regional rural bank formed on 1 May 2025.
    • IFSC code: BARB0BUPGBX. It has 11 characters, and the fifth character is the number zero.
    • Head office: NBCC Commercial Complex, Vardan Khand, Gomti Nagar Extension, Lucknow, 226010.
    • Works for: NEFT, RTGS and IMPS transfers.
    • Old codes: Aryavart Bank, Prathama UP Gramin Bank and Baroda UP Bank codes no longer work. Update your saved beneficiaries.
    • Do not mix up codes: PYTM0123456 belongs to Paytm Payments Bank, and AIRP0000001 belongs to Airtel Payments Bank.
    • Final check: Match the code with your passbook or cheque leaf before you send a large amount.

What Is the IFSC Code of UP Gramin Bank?

The IFSC code of UP Gramin Bank is BARB0BUPGBX. IFSC stands for Indian Financial System Code. The Reserve Bank of India assigns it to identify a bank branch in electronic transfers.

What Does Each Part of BARB0BUPGBX Mean?

An IFSC code has three parts. I break them down below so you can spot a typing error quickly.

    CharactersValueMeaning
1 to 4BARBBank code. This is the Bank of Baroda prefix, which fits because Bank of Baroda sponsors UPGB.
50Reserved character. It is always the number zero.
    6 to 11BUPGBXBranch identifier

    Zero or Letter O?

The fifth character is a zero. Many failed transfers I see described online come from typing the letter O in that position. Copy and paste the code instead of typing it.

Skim summary: The UP Gramin Bank IFSC code is BARB0BUPGBX. It has 11 characters: the bank prefix BARB, a reserved zero, and the branch identifier BUPGBX.

Why Did the UP Gramin Bank IFSC Code Change?

The code changed because three regional rural banks in Uttar Pradesh became one bank on 1 May 2025. The Government of India ordered the merger through a Gazette notification dated 7 April 2025, under its One State, One RRB policy. The bank describes the merger on its official About Us page.

Which Banks Merged Into UP Gramin Bank?

    Earlier bankEarlier sponsorStatus now
Baroda UP BankBank of BarodaMerged into UPGB
Prathama UP Gramin BankPunjab National BankMerged into UPGB
Aryavart BankBank of IndiaMerged into UPGB

Bank of Baroda sponsors the new bank. Public sources list ownership as 50% Government of India, 15% Government of Uttar Pradesh and 35% Bank of Baroda. A news summary reports that the bank covers 26 districts through 22 regional offices.

What Happens to the Old IFSC Codes?

The bank’s notices for Aryavart Bank and Prathama UP Gramin Bank branches say the old IFSC codes are discontinued. They give BARB0BUPGBX as the new code. I could not open the notice PDFs directly because the site blocked automated access, so I relied on the text shown in search results. Check the notice or your branch before you rely on it for a large payment.

What Stays the Same After the Merger?

The bank’s customer FAQ says branch and ATM locations do not change. It also says interest rates stay unchanged until maturity on existing deposits. If you want to see how your deposit earns interest, I explain the method in my guide on how bank interest is calculated. Your account number stays with you, but the IFSC code you share with payers must be the new one.

Skim summary: Baroda UP Bank, Prathama UP Gramin Bank and Aryavart Bank merged into Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank on 1 May 2025. Their old IFSC codes are discontinued, and BARB0BUPGBX is the code to use now.

How Do I Find the IFSC Code of My UP Gramin Bank Branch?

Check a document the bank issued to you. That is the safest source. I use this order.

Four Ways to Find the Code

    1. Cheque leaf or passbook. Look at the printed branch details. If your book was issued before May 2025, the code may be the old one. Treat it as outdated.
    2. Net banking. Log in at the bank’s internet banking portal and open your account details.
    3. Branch or helpline. Call the toll-free number 1800-1800-225. The bank lists the timings as 10 am to 5 pm.
    4. Official website. Open upgb.bank.in and check the notices section for the IFSC change notice.

Why I Avoid Third-Party IFSC Lookup Sites

I compared several lookup pages while researching this guide. Some list the UPGB code under Mumbai, Maharashtra. Others show it under Gorakhpur or Raebareli. The same code appears for different branches, which tells me the location fields are unreliable. Use these sites only to cross-check, never as the final source.

Skim summary: Find your IFSC code on your cheque leaf, passbook, net banking, the official website or the toll-free helpline. Treat third-party lookup sites as a cross-check only.

How Do I Send Money to a UP Gramin Bank Account Using the IFSC Code?

Enter the receiver’s account number and BARB0BUPGBX in your bank app or net banking as a new beneficiary. Then pick NEFT, RTGS or IMPS. I cover broader transfer options in my guide on digital payments in India.

    Step-by-Step Transfer Process

    1. Log in to your own bank’s app or net banking.
    2. Choose Add Beneficiary or Fund Transfer to Other Bank.
    3. Type the receiver’s name exactly as it appears on their account.
    4. Enter the receiver’s UP Gramin Bank account number. Enter it twice if the app asks.
    5. Enter BARB0BUPGBX in the IFSC field. Use copy and paste.
    6. Save the beneficiary and wait for the activation message from your bank.
    7. Select NEFT, RTGS or IMPS, enter the amount and confirm with your OTP.
    8. Save the reference number. You need it if the credit is delayed.

    NEFT vs RTGS vs IMPS

    ModeAvailabilityAmount ruleBest for
NEFT24×7No upper limit set by RBIRegular transfers
    RTGS24×7Minimum ₹2 lakhLarge payments
IMPS24×7, including holidaysUp to ₹5 lakh per transactionUrgent small and mid-size payments

Your own bank also sets daily limits and charges. Check them in your app. The National Payments Corporation of India runs IMPS, and RBI runs NEFT and RTGS.

Skim summary: To send money to a UP Gramin Bank account, add the receiver as a beneficiary with their account number and BARB0BUPGBX. Then use NEFT, RTGS (₹2 lakh minimum) or IMPS (up to ₹5 lakh).

Is the UP Gramin Bank IFSC Code Different From PYTM0123456 and the Airtel Payments Bank IFSC?

Yes. Each bank has its own IFSC code, and you must use the code of the receiver’s bank. I see readers confuse these three codes, so I put them side by side.

    IFSC Code Comparison Table

    BankIFSC codeListed location
Uttar Pradesh Gramin BankBARB0BUPGBXLucknow head office
    Paytm Payments BankPYTM0123456Noida branch
Airtel Payments BankAIRP0000001Airtel Center, Udyog Vihar, Gurugram

The rule is simple. Your own bank’s code never goes in the IFSC field. The code of the bank that holds the receiver’s account goes there.

Paytm Payments Bank: Check Before You Send

PYTM0123456 is a valid IFSC code for Paytm Payments Bank. But RBI barred the bank from accepting new deposits and credits after 15 March 2024. The exceptions are interest, cashback, refunds and sweep-ins from partner banks. Do not send money to a Paytm Payments Bank account using PYTM0123456 unless the receiver confirms that the account can receive it today.

Airtel Payments Bank: One Code, Balance Limits Apply

Airtel Payments Bank uses AIRP0000001 for transfers. A payments bank also has a balance ceiling of ₹2 lakh per customer under RBI rules, so a large transfer into such an account can fail. I explain the Airtel code and transfer steps in my guide on the Airtel Payments Bank IFSC code.

Skim summary: UP Gramin Bank uses BARB0BUPGBX, Paytm Payments Bank uses PYTM0123456 and Airtel Payments Bank uses AIRP0000001. Always enter the receiver’s bank code, and confirm that a Paytm Payments Bank account can receive money before you send.

What IFSC Mistakes Cause Failed UP Gramin Bank Transfers?

Most failures come from five avoidable mistakes. I list them with the fix for each.

    MistakeWhat happensFix
Using an old Aryavart, Prathama or Baroda UP codeThe transfer fails or bouncesReplace it with BARB0BUPGBX
Typing the letter O instead of zeroThe bank rejects the codeCopy and paste the code
Entering the 9-digit MICR codeThe app rejects the entryUse the 11-character IFSC code
Copying from an unverified lookup siteYou may use a wrong or old codeConfirm with the bank or your passbook
Entering your own bank’s IFSC codeThe transfer goes to the wrong bank or failsUse the receiver’s bank code

A MICR code is a 9-digit code printed on cheques. If you deposit cheques often, my guide on the cheque deposit message explains what the bank alerts mean. If a transfer fails, contact your own bank with the reference number first. You can escalate unresolved complaints through the Reserve Bank of India’s complaint channels listed on rbi.org.in.

Skim summary: Failed transfers mostly come from old codes, a letter O in place of zero, a MICR code in the IFSC field, unverified sources, or the sender’s own bank code. Copy the code and confirm it with the bank.

    FAQs

What is the IFSC code of UP Gramin Bank?

The IFSC code of UP Gramin Bank is BARB0BUPGBX. Say a customer in a village near Raebareli asks a relative in Delhi to send money. I tell that customer to read the code from the latest bank notice or a new cheque leaf, then share it with the sender in a message so the sender can copy it.

Is the IFSC code the same for all UP Gramin Bank branches?

The bank’s notices say BARB0BUPGBX replaces the discontinued codes for all branches. Take a case where two cousins hold accounts at branches in different districts. Both give the sender the same code and their own account number. The account number is what separates them. Check your passbook if you want proof for your own branch.

Is the Baroda UP Gramin Bank IFSC code still valid?

The Baroda UP Gramin Bank name no longer applies. The bank now operates as Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, and the code to use is BARB0BUPGBX. Say a shopkeeper still prints an old code on his invoices. I tell him to reprint them, because customers who copy that old code risk failed payments.

What is the IFSC code of Aryavart Bank and Prathama UP Gramin Bank now?

Both banks merged into Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, so both now use BARB0BUPGBX. Take a pensioner who saved an old Aryavart Bank code as a beneficiary in a relative’s app. The relative needs to delete the old entry and add a new one with the current code.

What is the MICR code of UP Gramin Bank?

There is no single MICR code to quote. MICR is a 9-digit code that identifies a branch on cheques, and it differs by branch. Read it from the bottom of your cheque leaf. You do not need it for NEFT, RTGS or IMPS.

Can I use the UP Gramin Bank IFSC code for UPI?

UPI normally needs a UPI ID, mobile number or QR code. Most apps also let you pay to an account number with an IFSC code. Say a vendor has no UPI ID set up. You can pick the bank account option, enter the account number and BARB0BUPGBX, and pay.

Is PYTM0123456 the IFSC code for the Paytm app?

No. PYTM0123456 is the IFSC code of Paytm Payments Bank, which is a separate legal entity from the Paytm app. Since 15 March 2024, RBI restrictions block most credits to Paytm Payments Bank accounts. Say a friend asks you to send money to his Paytm Payments Bank account. Ask him first if the account can receive credits, because the transfer can fail even with the right code.

What is the IFSC code of Airtel Payments Bank?

The IFSC code of Airtel Payments Bank is AIRP0000001. Say a relative wants to send ₹3 lakh to your Airtel Payments Bank account. The ₹2 lakh balance ceiling for payments banks can cause that credit to fail, so I would suggest splitting the amount or using a regular bank account.

    Disclaimer

This article is for general information only. It is not banking, financial or legal advice. I checked the bank’s pages, notices and public sources on 22 October 2026, but IFSC codes, bank notices, limits, charges and RBI rules can change without notice. Confirm the IFSC code with your passbook, cheque leaf, branch or the bank’s official website before you send money, and use any transfer at your own risk.
